Survival Skills is a motorcycle training school run by BTEC-qualified advanced instructor Kevin Williams MSc. Since 1996, we’ve trained hundreds of riders of all standards from newly qualified to police licence holders, from IAM to RoSPA, from Harleys to Hondas. Kevin is also a qualified ‘e-tutor’, with an NVQ in delivering training via distance learning and had a decade of experience as a DSA-certificated CBT and DAS instructor.
Survival Skills Rider Training is dedicated to improving motorcycle rider skills in the UK. Survival Skills provides a wide range of practical advanced motorcycle training courses from convenient locations in England, Wales and Northern France, as well as distance learning options and free rider resources.

Like all training, Survival Skills emphasises safety but we don’t think that should make riding dull. Motorcycling is fun, and it’s even more fun if you don’t scare yourself every time you ride. Our aim is to offer a practical training course that’s differentiated from standard Roadcraft-based advanced riding, focusing on high-quality Risk Assessment and Risk Management techniques to really understand the concept of hazards and how to cope with them and still enjoy the thrills of two wheels.
“A good advanced course will show you what you didn’t know
you needed to know, as well as covering what you thought
you were weak in, and wherever possible, will fit the new skills
around your existing style of riding.”
Survival Skills advanced rider training courses are, by deliberate intent, highly relevant to real-life riding. We recognise all riders are different and because we’re not tied to a particular riding test you don’t need to conform to a particular style just to pass it.
Survival Skills has worked with Buckinghamshire county council, Somerset Road Safety Partnership, the European Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (ACEM), the Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) and Kent Fire and Rescue on rider safety initiatives
We take a pragmatic view of riding. Everyone on the road, including bikers, makes mistakes so we aim to help you understand why riders and drivers make errors, how to avoid them, and how to get out of trouble when things do go wrong. Many of the lessons covered have been personally learned the hard way during my time in the despatch industry!
